Mobile on Installment Without a Credit Card
By the Mobilistan team
, 5 min read
Yes, you can. You don’t need a credit card or a bank account to buy a phone on qist from Mobilistan. You need your CNIC, a mobile number with WhatsApp, a guarantor and one more contact, and you pay each month from a JazzCash wallet, your own or someone else’s.
What you need
- You must be between 18 and 65.
- Your original CNIC, in your own name. The form takes a photo of the front and the back.
- A selfie, taken right there in the form.
- A mobile number of your own that has WhatsApp. We send a 6-digit code to it, and our team calls you on it.
- Your home address, your work, and your monthly income.
- A guarantor, usually a family member: their name, how they are related to you, their mobile number, CNIC number and date of birth. You don’t need their card, just the details.
- One more contact we can call if we can’t reach you. Just a name and a number.
The form does not ask for a credit card, a bank account, a bank statement or a salary slip. With your permission, we may check your credit history with a licensed credit bureau.
Our guide on what to keep ready before you apply has three tips that save time.
Step by step, from applying to taking your phone home
- Choose a phone and a plan. On the Qist Calculator, pick a phone, 3, 6 or 9 months, and one of three advance amounts. You see the advance, each month and the total before you apply. Not sure which phone? See the best phones on installment by budget.
- Apply. Go to mobilistan.pk/apply on your phone. The form has ten short steps: confirm your number with a WhatsApp code, photos of your CNIC, a selfie, about you and your address, work and income, your guarantor and second contact, your phone and plan, then review and send. It takes about ten minutes. You can also apply at a Mobilistan partner shop, where the salesman fills in the same form with you.
- We review it and call you. Our team reviews your application and calls you on your WhatsApp number.
- You see everything before you agree. Before you accept, we show you the phone and its IMEI, the total price, the advance, every instalment and every due date. Read it once. If anything isn’t clear, ask.
- Once approved, you collect your phone from our outlet, or in other cities from the Mobilistan partner shop assigned to you. You pay the advance there, sign your Sale Agreement and take your phone. Before it is handed to you, the phone maker’s own device security is set up on it and explained to you.
How monthly payments work
Each instalment has a due date, written in your Sale Agreement and in your account. We remind you two days before it, on the day and the day after.
You can pay from home with JazzCash Tap to Pay:
- Go to mobilistan.pk/pay and search with your WhatsApp number, your phone’s IMEI or your CNIC.
- Tap Tap to Pay, type the JazzCash number you are paying from, and press Pay.
- In the JazzCash app, open My Account, then Payment Requests. Approve the request from Mobilistan with your MPIN. You have about 50 seconds.
Our guide on paying your qist with JazzCash shows each screen. You can also pay in the MPay app, or through our payments helpline, 0370-8199951.
No JazzCash account? Your son, brother or a friend can pay for you from their own JazzCash. They just search with your details.
Payments go to the oldest month first. Once that month is paid, you can pay the next one early if you want to.
If you are late
This is exactly what our Terms say:
- Reminders come two days before the due date (on the phone), on the due date (on WhatsApp and the phone) and the day after (on the phone).
- On the second day after the due date, at 10:00 (Pakistan time), a final notice comes on WhatsApp and on the phone: if the instalment is still unpaid at 15:00 that day, the phone will be restricted.
- If it is still unpaid at 15:00, the phone may be restricted. That is the only thing that happens. No late fee, penalty, charity amount or any other charge is added, and your price does not change.
- Once you pay the overdue instalment, the phone is released automatically, usually within minutes. If more than one instalment is overdue, it stays restricted until all of them are paid. Release never costs anything.
If you know you will be late, call 0370-8199951 before the due date. It is always easier to sort out early. See what happens if you pay late for the full picture.
Why there is no interest
Interest, riba, is when someone lends you money and takes back more because of the time. Mobilistan doesn’t lend money. This is a sale, not a loan: we sell phones.
In our Musawamah sale, we buy the exact phone you chose first, so it is ours. Then we sell it to you at one price we both agree before you sign. That price is higher than the cash price because you pay later, which is allowed in a real sale as long as the price is fixed at the start and never grows. Ours never grows, and nothing is ever added for paying late.
Our model, contracts and process are certified by Al Hijrah Sharia Advisory Services. See every step, and the certificate, on our Sharia page. For how this compares with card instalments and pay-later plans, read halal qist vs card instalments vs buy now, pay later.
Questions people ask
Do I need a bank account?
No. The form doesn’t ask for one, and you pay your instalments from a JazzCash wallet, the MPay app or our payments helpline.
Do I need my own JazzCash account?
No. Tap to Pay works from any JazzCash wallet, so a family member or friend can pay for you from theirs. They search with your WhatsApp number, IMEI or CNIC.
Do I need a salary slip or bank statement?
No. The form asks what you do and your monthly income, but it doesn’t ask you to upload a salary slip or a bank statement.
Will you check my credit history?
With your permission, we may check your credit history with a licensed credit bureau.
Who can be my guarantor?
Usually a family member, aged 18 or older, with their own mobile number and CNIC, not yours. We may call them, so let them know. A guarantor only takes on a duty to pay if they sign a separate guarantee with us.
Where do I collect my phone?
Once approved, you collect your phone from our outlet, or in other cities from the Mobilistan partner shop assigned to you. You pay the advance there, sign your Sale Agreement and take your phone.
